Principals

Designers are problem solvers and the kind and number of problems a design team can solve is proportionate to the diversity of expertise within the team, therefore a small design team is inherently limited in its problem-solving capacity. Having a large team by hiring more staff is costly and inflexible because problems come in all shapes and sizes. You cannot fix varying problems with fixed teams. Because each problem is unique and should be treated so, teams should be dynamic and be assembled out of the right people.

As a communication design agency, COMA has a core team of principals with expertise in various disciplines such as user interface, communication and information design, writing, storytelling and publishing. We then approach each unique problem given to us by our clients by augmenting our base team with partners from a close group of people we work with who come from a wide range of creative and related industries. This approach allows us to assemble the most appropriate team for every project, for our clients’ best interests.

The team works collaboratively, usually with a COMA principal as an overall lead. The organization is flat with no hierarchy and information flows freely within the team, with no intervening bureaucracy. Clients are also invited to become part of the team and to get involved in the design process. Such an approach encourages organic workflows and innovation.
